Hello everyone, I’ve got unfortunate news to share. I have rescinded my attendance to the 2026 Manitoba Author Fair due to financial reasons.
As you may remember from my previous post, I mentioned vet bills and being unsure if my kitto (see his beautiful face below) was done with his current string of vet visits. Apparently he is not. A few weeks ago, I brought him in due to mouth pain, and the vet noticed a wound on his gums where there used to be a tooth—so it either fell out, broke off, or was it was resorption. We got sent home with pain meds and I was told to give them a call back if, once the meds run out, his pain returns.
And it didn’t, so I was happy about that! Because I knew if he needed to go back in, that would be an extraction; extractions are expensive and expensive means book fair would be a no go.

But… then it happened. This past weekend, he was eating and starting pawing at his mouth. Long story short, the quote I got is, at the high end, over double what I was expecting. Even at the low end, it’s not feasible for me to get him feeling better and attend the book fair.
He takes precedence, so unfortunately, my attendance to the fair is not a possibility this year.
That being said, if I feel like looking for a silver lining, that silver lining would be that at least this cancellation will allow me to come fully prepared for next time. Finances were already not great, so I ended up deciding on borrowing tablecloths even though they’d be mismatched, throwing together my own basic banner, and only bringing the first books of each series instead of all seven.
Anyway, apologies to those who were looking forward to seeing me there, but I would still encourage you to go to check out all the other local authors!
I hope the event is a great success for all involved, and thank you to Authors of Manitoba for the opportunity.
