Yesterday I posted about how the company I use for my books is merging with another company, and that everything was well so far. Well, that wasn’t wrong, but some time after posting that, issues started arising. As of right now, the cover and interior files have all disappeared from my account at the new company. Many other authors are having the same issues, so it’s not an isolated incident thankfully– meaning they will hopefully get it fixed sooner rather than later.
That being said, I don’t know if they can fix it and retrieve the files that have disappeared. If they can’t, I will be quite upset for a few reasons. The first is regarding the first edition of Dragons’ Myth. Although it was riddled with errors, bad formatting, and the cover wasn’t great, it was nostalgic because it was my first ever published book. However, somewhere along the line, I lost (or maybe didn’t back up?) the files for that book, and if this new company is not able to retrieve them, they will be gone forever.
The second reason is if I have to re-upload the files for Dragons’ Myth (second edition) and Renascence, and this new company requires different formatting (which they shouldn’t, but you never know), then I’ll be annoyed because formatting has always been the most frustrating, time-consuming, and headache-inducing part of the publishing process for me.
If the issues continue to persist, I will consider moving my books to an unrelated company. In any case, I suggest not buying any copies for now. Although their Amazon pages look normal, I don’t want anyone to risk buying a copy and end up with a blank and coverless book.
I will post an update when it’s sorted out.
